Biography

Welcome to my website.
Here's a little about me......Born and raised in Birmingham, at the age of 11, I passed the entrance exam to the renowned Moseley School of Art, where I studied from 11 to 18 followed by Birmingham Art College and a position with the Art department of 'Trevor Dolphin Advertising'.
When the company relocated I took the opportunity to change paths and explore a variety of different jobs including...Croupier, Royal Housemaid in Buckingham Palace and H.M.Customs & Excise at Gatwick Airport amongst others.

Having left the 'Art world' for many years I returned to it in 2002, and in what was once a Fishermans arch on Brighton seafront for my studio, returned to a love of oil painting .

Much of my painting is inspired and influenced by childhood memories , loves and interests; confectionary, food packaging and advertising imagery. I often isolate individual subjects in order to focus on the detail and give them centre stage.

I moved to Brighton in 1978, lured not only through having read Graham Greene's 'Brighton Rock' but by the attraction of seaside rock shops and Amusement arcades. Maybe because I grew up in Birmingham these symbols of the seaside have always attracted and drawn me in and it's this imagery that inspires me rather than the natural landscape.

Since returning to painting in 2002 I have had work selected for the Sussex Open of 2003 and 2005, regularly exhibit in the Brighton Festival, the I.O.Gallery, and in Birmingham. In February 2007 I was selected as one of 10 finalists in the 'Seeking Picasso' reality internet art competition.
My most recent clients are Harrods of Knightsbridge , 'New & Lingwood' of Jermyn St, London, Fortnum & Mason, and Pastry Chef Claire Clark MBE.
